HP LaserJet Enterprise, HP OfficeJet Enterprise, HP PageWide Enterprise - Configure the paper size and type settings on the printer - HP LaserJet M506dn

Review steps for configuring the paper size and type settings on the printer.

In the following situations, a message displays on the printer control panel prompting you to configure the tray for the size and type of paper being used:

  • When you load paper into the tray and then close the tray

  • When you specify a particular tray or paper type for a print job through the print driver or software program, but the tray is not configured with the same settings

The prompt will not display if you are printing from Tray 1 and Tray 1 is configured for the Any Size and Any Type paper settings.

NOTE:

In this situation, if the print job does not specify a tray, the printer prints from Tray 1, even if the paper size and type settings in the print job do not match the paper loaded in Tray 1.

Choose one of the options below to configure the tray and follow the steps provided.

Configure a tray when loading paper

Follow these steps to configure the paper size and type settings when you are loading paper into the tray.

  1. Load paper in the tray and then close the tray (if you are using Tray 2 or Tray 3).

    NOTE:

Ensure that the paper-length and paper-width guides are adjusted to the size of paper being used in the tray. The guides should rest against the stack of paper, but should not bend it.

  2. Select OK to accept the detected paper size and type, or select Modify to choose a different paper size or type.

    NOTE:

Some printer models do not automatically detect the size and type of paper being used.

  3. Select the correct size and type, and then select OK (or Done) to save the settings.

Configure a tray to match print job settings

Follow these steps to configure the tray and paper settings in the software program before sending a print job to the printer.

  1. In the software program, specify the source tray, the paper size, and the paper type.

For information on how to specify these settings in the software program, refer to one of the documents below that corresponds with your operating system (Windows or Mac):

  2. Select Print in the software program to send the job to the printer.

If the tray needs to be configured, a tray configuration message displays on the printer control panel.

  3. Load the tray with the specified type and size of paper, and then close the tray.

  4. Select OK to accept the detected size and type, or select Modify to choose a different paper size or type.

  5. Select the correct size and type, and then select OK (or Done) to save the settings.
