Learn how to send a fax from the HP multifunction printer (MFP).
The steps vary according to the type of control panel.
FUTURESMART 3 TOUCHSCREEN CONTROL PANEL
FUTURESMART 4 OR 5 TOUCHSCREEN CONTROL PANEL
Find your printer control-panel type in the options below, and then follow the steps to send a fax.
FutureSmart 3
Follow these steps if your printer has a FutureSmart 3 touchscreen control panel.

Place the document face-down on the scanner glass, or place it face-up in the document feeder and adjust the paper guides to fit the size of the document.

From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Fax button.

Specify the recipients using one of the following methods:

Enter recipients manually:
Touch the Fax Number field to open a touch keypad, enter a fax number, and then touch the OK button.

Enter recipients from the Contacts list:

Touch the Contacts button
to open the Contacts screen.

From the drop-down list, touch the name of the contact list.

Touch a name from the list of contacts to add the name to the recipients list. Repeat this step for each recipient, and then touch the OK button.

To configure settings for the document, touch the More Options button. For example:

Touch Resolution to specify the resolution for the fax.

If the original document is printed on both sides, touch Original Sides, and then touch 2-Sided.

Touch the Preview button
to preview the document.

When the document is ready, touch the Start button
to send the fax.
FutureSmart 4 or 5
Follow these steps if your printer has a FutureSmart 4 or 5 touchscreen control panel.

Place the document face-down on the scanner glass, or place it face-up in the document feeder and adjust the paper guides to fit the size of the document.

From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Fax icon.
NOTE:If prompted, enter your user name and password.

Specify the recipients using one of the following methods:

Enter recipients manually:
-
Touch the Fax Recipients text field, and then use the keypad to enter the fax number. To send to multiple fax numbers, separate the numbers with a semicolon, or touch the Enter button
after typing each number.

Touch the OK button to close the touch keypad.

Enter recipients from the Contacts list:
-
Touch the Contacts button
next to the Fax Recipients field to open the Contacts screen.

Touch the name of the contact list.
-
Touch a name, or names, from the list of contacts to add to the recipients list, and then touch Add.

To load a Quick Set, touch Load, select the Quick Set from the list, and then touch the Load button.
NOTE:Quick Sets are predefined settings for various types of output, such as Text, Photograph, and High Quality.

To adjust the settings, such as Resolution, Sides, or Content Orientation, touch Options in the lower left corner, and then touch any option in the list to change the setting. Touch Done, if prompted.

Optional Preview: Touch the right pane on the screen to preview the document. Use the Expand and Collapse buttons on the left side of the preview pane to expand and collapse the preview.

On the preview screen, use the buttons on the right side to adjust the preview options and to rearrange, rotate, insert, or remove pages.
BUTTONS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE PREVIEW PANE Button
Description
Toggle between the two-page view and the thumbnail view. More options are available in the thumbnail view than in the two-page view.
Zoom in or out on the selected page.
NOTE:Select only one page at a time to use these buttons.
Rotate the page 180 degrees.
NOTE:This button is available only in the thumbnail view.
Delete the selected pages.
NOTE:This button is available only in the thumbnail view.
Rearrange the pages within the document. Select one or more pages and move them to the left or right.
NOTE:This button is available only in the thumbnail view.
Add a page to the document. The printer prompts you to scan additional pages.
Clear the changes made in the preview and start over.

When the document is ready, touch Send to send the fax.
